Mary's Yes

"Mary's Yes" is a beautiful original oil painting by Kristen Rogers of Our Lady carrying Our Lord, Jesus, in her womb. She stands in her humble home in Nazareth leaning against a wall. A wooden shelf on the wall holds a vase containing three lilies, symbolizing the purity of the Holy Family. Bread and wine sit on a table in the background, foreshadowing Christ's sacrifice for us.  A warm light illuminates the Mother of God as she looks down, contemplating the goodness of God in her heart. 

In Luke 1:38, Mary says to the angel Gabriel, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word." 

Mary said yes to Gods will. Her yes was a free, courageous, and total surrender to God's plan despite the unknown and the difficulties that lied ahead. And through Mary's yes, God became human, making salvation possible. 

Mary's yes invites us to have the courage to say yes to God in our own lives. When we do, Jesus comes alive within us and helps us bring more of Gods love into the world.
